SCULPTURE
SPOON PUPPETS
In this puppetry class students transformed an everyday object into a fun character! Students thought up and constructed their characters from spoons, pipe cleaners, cut origami paper, fine markers, and googly eyes. They also created background scenery for their puppets using collage. To make it easier to construct a backdrop, house decor magazines were given to the students so they could cut out the complex pieces of furniture and draw the rest of the setting. Having a two-part lesson worked to give the students who are not so keen on making puppets another avenue of expression through 2-D work.
The lesson was so well-received that in subsequent weeks, some students cheered for more spoon puppets!
